]]> italian curtains 2008-06-18T07:52:04Z 2008-06-18T07:52:04Z a different building to yesterday, but the same wonderful paint/plaster colour that features on a lot of roman buildings. i took this photo for the beautifully extravagant curtains on show. it's a pity about the reflection across them - if i was any sort of a photoshop whizz at all, i'd try and clone them out, but honestly, i just couldn't be arsed.

]]> basilica 2008-06-09T21:50:54Z 2008-06-09T21:50:54Z we stumbled unexpectedly into this church with a great mouthful of a name - 'basilica santa maria degli angeli e dei martiri'. we were actually looking for an open-top bus when we walked past. i was eating gelati (chocolate & drippy. yum!) and for some reason decided (correctly?) that i shouldn't go into a church whilst eating, so aonghus popped inside first. when he hadn't re-appeard by the time i'd finished the gelati i sticky-handedly followed him in. i think i was half-hoping for a holy-water font where i could bless myself and relieve some of the stickiness but fortunately there was none.

this was taken on palatine hill, which is home to the familiar-sounding (if you've read i claudius) 'house of livia' and 'house of augustus'.

so with the help of a friend's flower business, that's exactly what i did!

i've had them at least three weeks now and they're holding up remarkably well - i've taken them out of water and am hoping they'll dry naturally and ideally will continue on indefinitely.
