    <summary><![CDATA[<p>a different building to yesterday, but the same wonderful paint/plaster colour that features on a lot of roman buildings. i took this photo for the beautifully extravagant curtains on show. it's a pity about the reflection across them - if i was any sort of a photoshop whizz at all, i'd try and clone them out, but honestly, i just couldn't be arsed.</p>]]></summary>

    <summary><![CDATA[<p>you can <i>just about</i> see the dome of st peter's through the pillars. this was the closest i got to the biggest church in the world during my time in rome. maybe given that i was tempted to rinse my ice-cream sticky fingers in the holy water font of the only other church i visited on the trip, this isn't such a bad thing. of course i never actually would have washed my hands in the font - but i suspect the temptation of it would be enough to set off the 'sinner' alarms that they surely have at the doors of all vatican churches?</p>]]></summary>

    <summary><![CDATA[<p>we stumbled unexpectedly into this church with a great mouthful of a name - 'basilica santa maria degli angeli e dei martiri'. we were actually looking for an open-top bus when we walked past. i was eating gelati (chocolate & drippy. yum!) and for some reason decided (correctly?) that i shouldn't go into a church whilst eating, so aonghus popped inside first. when he hadn't re-appeard by the time i'd finished the gelati i sticky-handedly followed him in. i think i was half-hoping for a holy-water font where i could bless myself and relieve some of the stickiness but fortunately there was none.</p>]]></summary>

    <summary><![CDATA[<p>i've been enviously eyeing up these fabulously cool flowers (with the *best* name - billy buttons!) on various people's websites for the last year or so and it was only recently that it dawned on me - in this carbon-rich age of global shippping and international flower transportation, i could just buy some myself.</p>

<p>so with the help of a <a href="http://www.vineblossom.ie/" target="_blank">friend's flower business</a>, that's exactly what i did!</p>

<p>i've had them at least three weeks now and they're holding up remarkably well - i've taken them out of water and am hoping they'll dry naturally and ideally will continue on indefinitely.</p>]]></summary>
