day three of fern photos. hope you're not sick of em.
i've always loved ferns. and if you noticed a similarity between the curling ferns in yesterday's photo and the swirl logo at the top of the page there, it's no coincidence. let me explain...
the swirl logo is modelled on a tattoo i have on the small of my back. it's a tattoo that i got whilst travelling in new zealand and the design is called 'koru' - a symbol used by the maori in their traditional design of jade and bone carvings.
the koru shape is linked to the new zealand fern plant - the shoot of the fern has a curled-over tip which unfurls and becomes a fernleaf - just like in yesterday's photo.
koru means stuff about new beginnings and growth, but i really just liked the aesthetics of it. which really is the important thing when getting a tattoo.
