exciting news today on caitriona.net - there is to be a competition!!!! and not only that, but there's going to be a real life prize for the winner of this competition: an amazing supercool fantastico old skool holga! yay!!!

y'see out of the blue the other day, the people at ABSOLUT LOMO emailed me and said that in return for a bit of linkage and pimping for submissions to their ABSOLUT LOMO WALL they would send me two holgas - one for me (as a bribe, like) and one for the winner of a competition that i was to hold.

not being one to turn down a free camera, i'm more than happy to succumb to their bribery and i'm not letting the fact that i already own a holga put me off either (i'll probably end up giving both cameras away [assuming anyone even enters the competition!?]).

so may i present

THE COMPETITION
This competition will be run in parallel with the ABSOLUT LOMO PROJECT and is open to all participants who have uploaded photos to the ABSOLUT LOMO WALL (if you have not yet submitted to the project - now is your chance!)

THE PRIZE
A brand-new ABSOLUT LOMO Holga camera will be awarded to the photo that i arbitrarily deem to be the 'best'. (and i'll also cover the cost of sending the camera to you).

HOW TO ENTER
After submitting a photo to the ABSOLUT LOMO WALL you will see a the 'BLOG THIS URL' link. Copy that link and email it to me at or put the link in the comments of this post.

Update: it's unclear to me how/when the 'BLOG THIS URL' link becomes available to people submitting their photos to the lomo wall, so if you also want to email me the photo you've submitted it, i'll assemble a lomo wall of my own so that entries can be seen here.

ok. the absolut-lomo people are just a bit slow at accepting the lomo wall submissions, but they do accept them in the end... once they do they send you an email with the link which you can send on to me.

also, as it doesn't make any sense that the requirements of a competition offering a holga as its prize be that the photographic entries must be taken with a holga (and i know that the sentence possibly doesn't make a whole lot of grammatical sense - but forgive me, i'm hungover), let me clarify that entries do not have to be taken using a holga (or any other lomo camera) they just have to be taken with the spirit of lomography in mind. the ten golden rules of lomography (one of which is 'don't worry about any rules') can be found here.

and one other note; i don't see any reason why a person cannot enter multiple photos - feel free to send more than one if ya like!

DEADLINE
28th February 2007 is when the ABSOLUT LOMO PROJECT ends, so i think we'll go with that as the deadline for entry into this competition too.
